Riverboat, Pottery & Coffee

This is a great day for anyone who wants to see a variety of animals Costa Rica has to offer.
On this private drive, we pick you up and head toward the wetlands. Along the way, we stop so you can purchase a Costa Rican bakery snack to start your day. Then we continue to the check-in location, where you’ll have a chance to learn about Costa Rica’s Blue Zones, make fresh handmade corn tortillas, and have a good cup of Costa Rican coffee.
Then we head to a covered riverboat and cruise through the wetlands. Keep your eyes open because you never know what you’ll see. White-faced capuchin and howler monkeys, crocodiles up to 17 feet long, huge orange iguanas, Jesus Christ lizards that run across the water, all kinds of tropical birds, and much more call this area home.
After the boat ride, we return to the check-in location, where you’ll be served a wonderful typical Costa Rican meal that even ends with homemade ice cream. Most of the ingredients come from the family farm and are grown in the Blue Zone way.
From there, we continue on to meet the Mesoamerican Chorotega people and learn about a tradition that has been passed down for more than 1,000 years. You’ll see how they make their pottery, from the ingredients they collect to the making of the pot and how they color and design these beautiful pieces. You’ll be surprised by how creative they have been in their advancements and how little has changed over the years. If you want, you can even try to make a pot yourself.
Then we’ll rise in elevation so you can finish the day at a local coffee co-op. Here you’ll learn how a coffee bean makes its journey from the seed growing in the field, through sorting by quality, drying and roasting, and finally to your cup. You’ll finish with a coffee taste test.
It’s a day filled with wildlife, culture, food, and some of the traditions that make Costa Rica so special. You’ll come home with more than pictures—you’ll have experienced a little piece of everyday Costa Rica.
This tour is also available without the coffee co-op visit.
